Planting of the Arboretum was started in 1999. The aim was to bring together a collection of rare and unusual trees with an emphasis on size, shape, leaf, bark and colour. The Arboretum includes collections of Sequoiadendron, Sequoia, Fagus, Liriodendron, Liquidambar and Quercus. New trees will continue to be planted for the foreseeable future as there is still room for expansion.
View GalleryAs well as the Arboretum and the woodland glades, Abbeywood has three large areas of mature woodland, covering an area of approximately ten acres. Much work has been done in recent years to manage these areas including the thinning and replanting of trees to help continue their long-term future to the benefit of wildlife and visitors.
